Air permeability is an important index to judge the quality of vegetable soil, because it will affect the quality of your vegetables and the yield. The following content also has some reference value for raised garden beds.

However, most vegetable friends through flower beds, gardens or suburbs to get planting soil, may not be very ideal in terms of air permeability, or originally good air permeability, but after planting a few times the air permeability becomes relatively poor.

Here are three simple, practical and effective ways to improve soil permeability.

Because when you want to improve soil permeability, most of the time is in these two situations: 1, the vegetables have not been planted in the soil 2, the vegetables have been planted in the soil

From these two situations share how to improve the planting soil.

1

The vegetables have not been planted in the ground

If the soil hasn't been planted yet, it's easier to fix the situation by simply adding some other ingredients to the soil to improve it.

If you are planting a lot of soil, such as in a yard, on a roof or in a small field, you can buy a mix of peat soil, chicken manure, deciduous soil, sawdust or coarse sand soil (the specific ratio can be determined by the actual situation).

If the amount of planting soil is small, such as on the balcony, with POTS or planting boxes, you can buy some perlite, ceramide, vermiculite, coarse sand soil and so on mixed, to improve the soil permeability (of course, with peat soil, deciduous soil can also).

2

The vegetables have been planted in the soil

There are several methods you can use

(1) Turn the soil frequently (hoe the soil)

Before planting vegetables, be sure to turn the soil deep, preferably with a shovel 30 cm deep, and then with a rototiller fine. The soil is not only breathable, but also conducive to deep roots.

Rooftops, courtyards or small fields can often be ploughed with a hoe.

If you're planting in a pot or planter box, use the small gardening tools you buy to carefully dig down from time to time.

(2) Increased application of biological fertilizer (organic fertilizer added some biological strains)

Insufficient organic matter in soil and excessive chemical use, often cause soil compaction, poor air permeability. Therefore, increasing the application of organic fertilizer is an important measure to improve soil permeability and change soil properties. Organic fertilizer can improve soil, but biofertilizer with biological strains is more effective. In addition to the fertilizer effect, the soil swelling, soil structure improvement and soil permeability enhancement can be achieved through the activities of microorganisms after application.

(3) Add some insects or small animals

The most commonly used is the earthworm, not afraid of small animals, if you are brave, you can buy less earthworms to improve the soil, this effect is also very good.

(4) Change the cultivation method

Such as ridge cultivation because of watering in ridge furrow, so the ridge surface permeability is good, and the temperature is obvious. And ditch planted vegetable root soil is often watered, air permeability is poor, easy to cause retting root. So in vegetable cultivation, we should advocate ridge cultivation. Conditional use of drip irrigation watering, the effect is better.

Of course, according to their own actual situation, comprehensive use, can also be single use. Hope these tips help you.
