Why are the garden beds open at the bottom?
The bottom-less metal garden beds improve drainage. The plants will have access to nutrients at the surface soil level.
Can I place the beds on hard surfaces such as concrete?
If you're placing your bed on pavers, concrete, tiles, or anything you don't want to stain, we recommend using a bed liner or geotextile fabric.
To use, place your raised bed in position, then place the fabric on the bottom of the bed from the inside.
Run excess fabric up each side and then fill your bed with soil. The fabric allows water to drain freely, but keeps soil from touching your surface.
Can the clip on safety strip handle freezing temps?
Yes, it is designed to withstand freezing winter temperatures.
Materials & Safety
What are Savana Garden Raised Beds made from?
Savana Raised Garden Beds are made of galvanized steel coated with Aluzinc which is a zinc-aluminum alloy.
Aluzinc steel is a type of steel that is coated with an alloy of aluminum and zinc. The term "Aluzinc" is a combination of "aluminum" and "zinc."
The coating of aluminum and zinc on the steel provides corrosion resistance and helps to prevent rusting. This makes Aluzinc steel a popular choice for use in outdoor applications such as roofing, siding, and cladding.
Aluzinc steel is also known for its excellent thermal and heat-reflective properties, making it a popular choice for use in construction and building materials. Additionally, Aluzinc steel is lightweight and strong, making it an ideal material for use in the transportation industry.
Being outdoors and made of metal, will it rust?
Savana Raised Garden Beds are made of galvanized steel coated with Aluzinc which is a zinc-aluminum alloy.
The coating of aluminum and zinc on the steel provides corrosion resistance and helps to prevent rusting.
How long will the garden beds last outdoors?
Savana Raised Garden Beds are made of galvanized steel coated with Aluzinc, a zinc-aluminum alloy, which is durable in all weather conditions. The corner panels are 1mm. That makes our metal garden beds solid and sturdy that lasts for many years.
Are they safe to grow food in?
Our raised beds are designed for growing vegetables, fruits, and other edible plants safely. Unlike treated wood and plastic that degrade over time, our raised beds are made of Aluzinc steel, which doesn't leach harmful chemicals into the soil or plants. This makes it ideal for organic gardening as it helps maintain the highest quality soil. Moreover, Aluzinc steel offers superior performance and corrosion resistance in various environmental conditions.
How does Aluzinc with zinc coating help preventing plant diseases and pests from attacking crops?
Aluzinc steel with zinc coating is a type of corrosion-resistant steel that is commonly used in the agricultural industry to prevent plant diseases and pests from attacking crops. The zinc coating on the steel acts as a physical barrier, making it difficult for pests and diseases to penetrate and damage the crop.
Additionally, zinc is an essential micronutrient for plant growth and development. It plays an important role in the synthesis of chlorophyll, which is necessary for photosynthesis, and helps to regulate plant growth hormones. Zinc-deficient crops are more susceptible to disease and pest attacks, so by using Aluzinc steel with zinc coating in agriculture, farmers can help to ensure that their crops are getting the necessary amount of zinc to stay healthy and resist pests and diseases.
Furthermore, Aluzinc steel with zinc coating is durable and long-lasting, which means that it can be used for a variety of applications in agriculture, including roofing, fencing, and irrigation systems. This can help to improve overall crop yield and reduce the risk of crop damage due to weather or other environmental factors.

FILLING GARDEN BEDS
How should I fill my raised garden bed?
The first step is to calculate the amount of soil you'll need in cubic feet or yards based on the dimensions of your bed. Remember to include soil mixed with compost. For the best results, aim for a soil mixture of 60% topsoil, 30% compost, and 10% potting soil. Soil can be expensive, but you can save money by trying the Hugelkultur method. Once you have your soil, fill the bed almost to the top, taking into account the type of plants you'll be growing and personal preference. Avoid tilling the soil, as this can dry it out and potentially harm your plants.
How can I make a Hugelkultur garden?
Hugelkultur is a German word that means "hill culture," and it refers to a type of gardening that involves creating a raised bed filled with organic material. Hugelkultur gardens are known for their ability to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and provide a steady source of nutrients to plants over time. Here are the steps to create a Hugelkultur garden:
- Choose a location: Select a spot for your garden that gets plenty of sunlight and has good drainage.
- Gather organic material: Collect a variety of organic materials such as branches, logs, leaves, straw, grass clippings, and kitchen scraps.
- Create a base: Lay down a layer of logs or large branches as the base of your bed. This will create aeration and allow water to drain.
- Add organic material: Layer on the organic material, alternating between green (fresh) and brown (dried) materials.
- Add soil: Once you have a pile of organic material, cover it with a layer of soil. This will help to retain moisture and provide nutrients to the plants.
- Plant: Once your Hugelkultur bed is complete, you can start planting. You can plant directly into the bed, or you can add a layer of compost or topsoil on top of the bed first.
- Water: After planting, water your garden regularly to keep it moist. Over time, the organic material in the bed will break down and provide nutrients to the plants, so you may not need to fertilize as often.
